Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started & Booking
What is Jane?
Jane is the secure online platform we use at Clarion Therapy & Wellness to manage appointments, intake forms, billing, and client communications. Through Jane, you can schedule appointments, complete required paperwork, and review your payment history.
Can I book an appointment online? Do I need a free consultation first?
Yes! New clients can book appointments directly through our online scheduling system.
All Clarion therapists offer a free 15-minute consultation, but consultations are optional. If you're ready to begin counseling, you can schedule your first full session without completing a consultation.
How do I choose the right therapist?
You can select your preferred therapist when scheduling an appointment. Availability may vary.
If you're unsure whom to choose, our care coordinator can help match you with a therapist based on your needs, preferences, and scheduling availability.
For assistance, email info@clarionwellness.org or call 972-351-8850.
What happens after I schedule my appointment?
Once you book an appointment and create your Jane account, you'll receive the intake paperwork needed before your first full session.
Jane also sends appointment confirmations and reminders to help you prepare for your visit.
Please complete your intake paperwork online before your first full counseling session.
Your First Session & Ongoing Care
What should I expect during my first counseling session?
Your first session is an opportunity for your therapist to learn more about you, understand what brings you to counseling, and discuss what you hope to accomplish.
Together, you'll explore your concerns, discuss the therapeutic approach that may work best for you, and establish initial goals. Your therapist will also discuss the recommended frequency of appointments and an initial treatment plan.
A standard counseling session lasts 50 minutes.
How many counseling sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on your individual needs and goals.
During your first session, you and your therapist will discuss a treatment plan and determine what frequency and duration of counseling may be helpful.
As you make progress, your goals may change. You and your therapist can revisit your treatment plan and adjust your appointments accordingly.
You're never locked into a specific number of sessions. Your participation, frequency, and duration of treatment remain your choice.
How does counseling work for children, teens, and couples?
Children & Teens
Counseling for children and teens typically involves communication and collaboration with their parents or guardians.
Before treatment begins, your therapist will work to understand the family's concerns and goals. Depending on scheduling, this initial conversation may occur shortly after the first appointment.
Therapists communicate with parents in different ways, including phone calls, emails, or scheduled parent consultations. Your therapist will explain their approach to parent involvement and ongoing updates, while respecting appropriate confidentiality boundaries.
Couples Counseling
Couples counseling focuses on the relationship, with the couple considered the client.
Generally, both partners attend sessions together to maintain trust and support a balanced therapeutic relationship.
Depending on the therapist's approach, individual conversations with each partner may also take place early in treatment.
If either partner would benefit from individual counseling, your couples therapist can help coordinate care with another therapist at Clarion while continuing to work with you as a couple.
Can I begin individual counseling and later include my spouse, partner, child, or another family member?
Yes. You can begin counseling individually and explore including a family member or partner later.
When the time is right, your therapist can help coordinate care with another Clarion therapist who works with couples or families.
We generally recommend using a different therapist for couples or family counseling than the one providing individual therapy. This helps everyone feel equally supported and creates a balanced, comfortable environment for working together.
Visiting Our Office & Telehealth
Where should I park, and what should I do when I arrive?
Free parking is available in the building's parking lot. You may park in front of or alongside the building.
Appointments Before 6:00 PM
Enter the building through the main entrance and take the stairs or elevator to the second floor. Look for the door marked Clarion.
Once inside, feel free to grab a cold water and make yourself comfortable in our waiting area. Your therapist will come out to greet you when it's time for your appointment.
Appointments After 6:00 PM
If your appointment is scheduled after 6:00 PM, you can text your therapist using the secure number they've provided so they can grant you access to the building.
Alternatively, you can ring the white doorbell located on the wall to the right of the main entrance.
How do online therapy (telehealth) appointments work?
Clarion offers convenient, secure telehealth appointments through Jane, our online scheduling and client management platform.
Approximately 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment, Jane will email you a secure video link.
Simply click the link in your email to enter your therapist's virtual waiting room. Your therapist will join you when it's time for your session.
Fees, Payment & Insurance
How much does counseling cost at Clarion?
Clarion Therapy & Wellness offers several counseling options with rates based on the therapist's credentials and the type of service provided.
Our current session rates include:
Graduate Student Counselors: $50 per session
LPC-Associates: $125 per session
Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs): $150–$175 per session
Couples Counseling: $165–$185 per session
We also offer free 15-minute consultations with all therapists.
Initial counseling sessions are priced the same as ongoing sessions. There is no additional fee for your first appointment.
How and when do I pay for my counseling sessions?
Payment is collected after each completed session using the payment card securely stored in your Jane account.
All payments are processed by Clarion's administrative team rather than your individual therapist.
We accept credit cards and eligible Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards.
If you'd like to seek reimbursement through your insurance provider, we can also provide a superbill upon request.
What is a superbill, and can I use one for insurance reimbursement?
A superbill is a detailed receipt that you can submit to your health insurance company to request possible reimbursement for out-of-network counseling services.
It typically includes:
Your therapist's name and professional credentials
Dates and types of services provided
The amount paid for each session
Relevant billing and diagnosis codes required by your insurance provider
Insurance reimbursement is not guaranteed. Whether you receive reimbursement depends on your insurance plan's out-of-network benefits, deductible, and coverage requirements.
We recommend contacting your insurance provider before beginning counseling to understand your benefits and any documentation requirements.
Will I receive a mental health diagnosis if I attend counseling?
Not necessarily. Many people seek counseling for stress, relationship challenges, life transitions, or personal growth without needing a formal mental health diagnosis.
At Clarion, a diagnosis is not automatically required simply because you're attending counseling. Your therapist will determine whether a diagnosis is clinically appropriate and discuss it with you.
If you request a superbill for possible insurance reimbursement, a diagnosis code is generally required. Your therapist can explain what information will be included before providing that documentation.
Your personal information is handled confidentially in accordance with applicable privacy laws and professional standards.
About Counseling & Our Therapists
What's the difference between therapy and counseling?
The terms therapy and counseling are often used interchangeably, as are therapist and counselor. Both generally describe professional support for emotional, behavioral, and mental health concerns.
However, different mental health professionals have different training, credentials, and areas of expertise.
Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) are master's-level mental health professionals licensed by the State of Texas. They provide ongoing counseling, help clients work toward personal and emotional goals, and can diagnose mental health conditions. LPCs do not prescribe medication.
Psychologists typically hold doctoral degrees in psychology (PhD or PsyD). Many provide therapy, while others specialize in psychological testing and assessments for conditions such as ADHD, autism, and learning differences. Psychologists generally do not prescribe medication in Texas.
Psychiatrists are medical doctors (MDs or DOs) who specialize in mental health. They can diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe medications, and provide medication management. Some also offer psychotherapy.
At Clarion, our counseling professionals focus on building supportive therapeutic relationships and helping clients work toward meaningful, lasting progress.
Does Clarion provide medication management?
No. Clarion Therapy & Wellness does not prescribe or manage psychiatric medications.
However, with your written permission, your therapist can collaborate with your physician or other healthcare providers to discuss symptoms, potential medication side effects, and your overall treatment goals.
We believe mental health care is often most effective when the professionals supporting you work together. Your therapist can help coordinate communication with other providers when appropriate.
